Your series of photos really capture, for me, one of the essenses of photography. In "farther away" it is how our eye would have seen the pine cones. Not necessarily interesting. But by focusing in on them, getting close and closer they become not only interesting but also tell a story (both different). In the original photo I like the contrast of green/brown and thin grass/roundy scales(?). In the "Get Closer" the repeating pattern of shapes and colors is more emphasiszed showing the beauty of the pinecone. In both photos the shadows do add something however it seems a bit bright. Maybe trying a different time of day would change the strength of the light.
