Meagan MacKenzie - Dragon Boat Races

To get out of my comfort zone, I photographed people because I usually don't. For the trophies and the boats, I concentrated on the reflective light.

  1. First! (as they say on the Blogs) to comment on your self portrait. Awesome! What a great and creative idea. A stunning and fun photo. I love the fish-eye effect that gets the spectators and boats, and the colors of the trees and sky in the background. I would love to try this idea out. I also really like the double mirror effect of the two dragon boats. The details and neutral colors of the pebbles and the ripples of water contrast well with the bright geometrics of the boats.I envy your ability to deal with that harsh sunlight and capture those reflections.

  2. I love the reflection of the 2 boats in the water -- it's almost abstract -- then the brain realizes what the image is -- the contrast between the colorful boats and the blue, relatively tranquil water is wonderful.

  3. Meagan--I really liked the top 2 pictures. The refections in the water were made especially interesting by the rippling of the water. I also thought that the use of a lens of the sunglasses worn by someone as a self portrait mirror was rather clever.
