Linda Woj...Stop looking & start seeing!

Shutter speed 1/40, Aperture Value 22.0, Lens 70/300

Automatic Depth-of-Field

My comfort zone includes anything that walks, skips, hops, swims and/or flies. This exercise forced me (3/4 of the time) to shoot out of my zone. All images were shot with "Daylight" white balance, ISO 200 & either an ultraviolet or circular polarizer lens. All comments welcome.

  1. Linda, I will let Barbra give you the professional critique but all I can say is I find your photographs beautiful. I am always drawn to simple color and I love working with grays and different shades of the same color and you seemed to do that well. The first two photos capture the serenity of the spring day without any of the harshness from the sun. The third is like a study in browns and great use of shadows. The last photo is my favorite. The grayness of the clouds meeting the cement and the lone figure evoke poetic melancholy. Thanks for the treat, it was better than my morning coffee. (p.s. Do you get up or stay up until 3?)

  2. Shannon, "Better than morning coffee!" I've never received such high praise. The photography gods seemed to have been with me as I strolled around the lake. Yes, I have been known to stay up late, a tradition dating back to when my children were small. It's my time, quiet time. I've reclaimed this since Mother moved in with Tony, my husband, and me. Last night was unusually late due to the return of my computer...a first opportunity to review Sunday's images off camera. Too much time was spent deciding which photos to post. In retrospect my choices seem safe. Thank you for your kind comments...you've made my day!

  3. My favorite is the tree b/c I love shadows and it shows the attention to the lighting part of the assignment. For some reason I can't really explain, I'm really drawn to the megaphone, too. You'd think that would not be an interesting subject, but you've made it one! It's so simple, and I love the colors and rippled water backdrop. I also like the unique idea for using this to tell the story of the race. For someone used to movement, you sure take great still lifes!

  4. I love the simplicity of the white float in the blue water -- very serene and cool (in both sense of the word).

  5. The tree shadow picture was my favorite. The pattern of the grill on the sidewalk and the manhole covering on the left added to the picture I thought, as they were somewhat unexpected.
