Shoot the Moon!

Images by Debbi Viuf.

Shot with a 70-200mm, plus 2X converter. f/16, 1/30 sec, ISO 100.

Erik Sack writes, I shoot the moon with 300mm f/4 with 1.7 converter for a focal length of about 500mm. I shot it with my Nikon D300 which has a crop factor of 1.5 for a final effective focal length of about 750mm.
White Balance-sunlight, ISO 200, f/7.1 for 1/400sec. Mirror lock up, remote shutter release, very heavy duty tripod. Also, I've been told for moon shots you need a fast shutter speed because the moon is moving pretty fast up there and a slower shutter will blur the moon. Watch it for a few minutes in your view finder, and you'll see what I mean.

  1. Erik,
I love your pictures! Thank you also for posting your settings--I'll be trying to take some moon shots myself!

    Thanks,
    Amy
